Frugal Decorating Tips for the Small Bedroom
You love your cozy home, but you’re getting bored with the décor, especially in your bedroom. But you have two big problems -- the bedroom is small, and so is your budget. Fortunately, there are ways to give your small bedroom a fresh new look with simple changes that won’t break the bank.
Change Your Bedding
It is estimated that humans spend approximately one third of their lives in bed, so yours should be as appealing as possible. If a new mattress or bed frame is out of the question, consider new bedding. Consider online bedroom offers such as like the bed in a box, which includes coordinated sheets, pillowcases, shams and comforters in matching colors or coordinating patterns. Alternatively, it could be equally effective to mix and match a set of sheets and pillowcases with that handmade quilt that your Gran knitted especially for you.
A small bedroom can easily look cluttered with too much furniture. However, small accessories such as lamps and wall hangings can bring welcome color and interest into your small bedroom. Place a cushion over an ottoman or a trunk to allow it to serve double duty for storage and a seating area. Place your prized collection of rag dolls or baseball cards, or a collection of your favorite books on display in easy reach by mounting a set of shelves on a wall. Bedside lamps or wall mounted lighting can make reading in bed more pleasurable while adding interest to your room.
Throw Pillows and Rugs
In many small bedrooms, there is just enough room for a bed and night table, and maybe a wardrobe. Any sort of chairs are often out of the question. However, you can create comfortable seating while adding splashes of color with throw pillows that can be scattered around the room or stashed away when they’re not in use.
New flooring can be expensive. Wall to wall carpeting is also costly. However, throw rugs represent an inexpensive way to add color to your room. Throw rugs also don’t force you to sacrifice any precious floor space or risk cluttering up your walls, plus it’s easy to switch them when you are ready for a change.
Don’t settle for boring shades for your bedroom windows. Changing your window treatment can create a focal point for a gorgeous view. And if the view from your bedroom is less than spectacular, your window treatment can disguise it while providing a splash of color or create the illusion of a solid wall that can make your room look larger.
A Coat of Paint
One of the easiest, quickest and most inexpensive ways to switch up the décor of any room is with a coat of paint. Choose a color that inspires restfulness or tranquility such as blue or green. Or go with a sunny yellow to match your cheerful disposition. If you’re daring, paint one wall in a contrasting color or apply wallpaper to one wall while painting the others. You can change the entire look of your room in a single afternoon, without sacrificing any wall or floor space whatsoever.
